Selected Families and Individuals

John Williams

A rare piece of luck, I discovered an old book today with
pictures of Llansannan taken about 1900, two of them being of
CHWIBREN !! the Williams family home for many years, this is about
a mile or so South of Llansannan, on the river Aled, OS ref. 649
945 (tell me what sort of map you use for the area so that we can
cross reference various places).

Chwibren is one of thirteen 'townships' that comprised Llansannan, which
itself was situated in the 'hundred' of Rhufoniog. During the greater part of
the Middle Ages Wales consisted politically of the four great kingdoms of
Gwynedd, Powys, Deheubarth, and Morgannwg. Each of these was divided into
hundreds, each hundred in turn was sub-divided into commotes cosisting of a
number of townships, a typical township was usually one or two farmhouses,
with a few cottages forming a group......a sort of inter dependant mini-hamlet
as yesterdays picture illustrates.

.... found the two items in the Parish register.....both
appearing by a lucky coincidence on the same page, at this early
date, of course all entries are written in latin.
_Baptizati_.
1. Johannes filius Guilielmus Williams 11 die October 1729
(John son of William Williams 11 day October 1729)

_Matrimonio Conjuncti_.
2. Guilielmus Williams to Ann Byrchinshaw 8 die January 1729

This would make the above Wm. Williams the g.g.grandfather of
Thomas Williams of Glascoed Lodge. Ann Byrchinshaw's father is
Robert Byrchinshaw....I'll see if I can follow his line into the
17th century, as well as Williams of course !
