Notes for PRESTON PASCAL SULLIVAN:
About 1859 Preston moved to Texas with his two uncles John and Edwin Lee. Preston was living with Edwin in the 1860 Texas Census. Preston served in the Confederate Army and in 1865 married his first cousin Mary F. Lee. He later moved to Arkansas to be near his parents.Aug. 11, 1862 Preston enrolled in the confederate cavalry in Brownsville
Aug. 22, 1862 Preston encountered a man by the name of Ruis. For unknown reasons Preston Shot Ruis in the neck and thigh with a shot gun, stole Ruis Colt Revolver and a $25 gold coin.
Sept./Oct. 1862 Preston was present for the confederate muster roll for his cavalry unit
Oct. 17, 1862 The was dept. filed papers bringing Preston up on 3 different charges concering Ruis.
Feb. 5, 1863 Preston is absent from the muster roll, it says that he left in Wharton County, TX
March/June 1863 Muster Roll doesn't say if Preston is present or not
July/ Aug. 1863 Muster Roll once again doesn't say if preston is present or not.
Nov. 1863 Appears on list of absent enlisted soldiers and says that he has been gone since Feb. 5, 1863
May 5, 1864 Preston signs into Hamilton's Body Guards in Brownsiville, TX. for 1 year. This is a union cavalry troop that never
is envolved in action, hence Preston would not have to fight against any family members. The men envolved in this unit were hand picked and it would have been an honor for him to be chosen.
June 1864 Union Muster Roll for Hamilton's Body Guards: Preston is present
July/Aug. 1864 Comp. A. TX Cavalry Muster Roll says that Preston never mustered as recruit and was entered on last muster roll through a mistake.
Sept./ Oct. 1864 Co. A. 2nd TX Cavaly Regiment Muster Roll: Preston is present and they have increased his pay from May 1864 & then it says Mustered in Oct. 12, 1864 New Orleans, LA
Nov./Dec. 1864 General Hamilton's muster ropll says appointed from pvt. to corp on Nov. 1, 1864. Increased pay due from May 1.
Jan. 24, 1865 Rank reduced to private - no bounty paid
Jan/ Feb. 1865 Transfer Jan. 25 to this unit from Hamiltons Co. E, 1st Regt. TX Cav. muster roll - present
May 4, 1865 Mustered out May 4 in San Antonio but had been discharged in Baton Rouge on the 3rd service expired.
Oct. 12, 1865 Preston married Mary Frances Lee in Matagorda
